On 26 June in Luxembourg, Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis attended the EU's Foreign Affairs Council.
"Now is the time to strengthen our defence at strategically important points on the eastern flank, such as the Suwalki Corridor, and we all have to speed up our support for Ukraine - military and political," the head of Lithuania's diplomacy said at the meeting in Luxembourg.
Landsbergis also urged his EU counterparts to sanction Rosatom finally. "The EU has just adopted the 11th package of sanctions, but it lacks some important elements. The fact that Rosatom always manages to evade sanctions reinforces the sense of impunity for Russia and other countries that help the aggressor fight against Ukraine," Landsbergis said.
"The issue of accountability for the crime of aggression and war crimes is crucial. A special tribunal is needed to avoid the recurrence of aggression like against Ukraine anywhere else (and there should be no sense of impunity). In addition, the International Criminal Court also needs stronger support and more funding for its work," Landsbergis said.
Foreign Ministers also discussed the EU cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries, the situation in Tunisia, the EU digital diplomacy, the EU involvement in de-escalating tensions in Kosovo and between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and other relevant foreign policy issues.
