Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on intensified terrorist attacks against the Serbs in Kosovo

Amid the West's false outrage at the behaviour of the provisional self-government bodies in Pristina, Kosovo's "Prime Minister" Albin Kurti is clearly unable to take even a dramatic pause in the ongoing violence against the native Serb population. Clearly, negotiating with the regional "authorities" is an exercise in futility, since each of their seemingly peaceful initiatives turns out to be false eventually.

Shortly after presenting his so-called plan to reduce tensions to Westerners, on the same day, June 13, Kurti staged the latest incursion by Kosovo Albanian special forces into North Mitrovica, clearly showing what he means by "de-escalation." The Albanian forces acted like a squad of punishers. Riding around in armoured vehicles, in full gear, they stormed into a busy street and pointed weapons at random passers-by, and intimidated and threatened them. A Serb by the name of Milun Milenković was detained with exemplary cruelty. In Pristina, he was baselessly pronounced a leader of a certain "criminal group" which organised attacks on the local "police" and NATO service personnel.

A day later, a group of heavily armed Kosovo Albanian saboteurs crossed the administrative line into central Serbia. The appropriate services acted promptly and detained the thugs. An investigation is underway.

The tactics of the Kosovo Albanian radicals remain unchanged. First, the Serbs are provoked and forced to defend themselves, and later they are accused of stirring up tensions, and put on the list of "terrorists" who, according to none other than Kurti, deserve either deportation or prison.

Meanwhile, the "Kosovo project" sponsors represented by the United States and the EU are unable or unwilling to muzzle the Pristina extremists and force them to remove the "police" and fake "mayors" from administrative buildings in northern Kosovo. Needless to say about creating the Community of Serb Municipalities, which is a commitment signed by the EU back in 2013. So much for the infamous Western guarantees.

Urgent and decisive steps must be taken to get Pristina back into dialogue with Belgrade based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244. Time is not on the side of peace and stability in the region.

Procrastination and lack of will in Kosovo affairs is fraught with aggravation of old threats. In particular, Kurti resumed his Great Albania rhetoric and recently stated that he has not forgotten about the importance of uniting all Albanians, and the key goal of the party that he leads is dictated by the "unfinished project of the League of Prizren." This puts the territorial integrity of Greece, North Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro in question, because these plans call for tearing away their Albanian-populated areas to be subsequently integrated into a single whole. This is an extremely alarming signal which reveals Pristina's true plans and what it really thinks about the security and inviolability of borders in the Balkans.
