"Russia poses a direct threat to the security, stability and prosperity of the Euro-Atlantic space. Countries of the Northern Group uphold a unanimous view that it is absolutely important to ensure continued military assistance to Ukraine in its fight against the unlawful and brutal Russian aggression," says Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas.
On May 22 Minister A. Anušauskas took part in a Northern Group Defence Ministers' meeting in the capital of Poland, Warsaw. Minister discussed the current status of the regional security situation, perception of threats and challenges to the Northeastern European security, and distance to Ukraine.
The meeting officials underscored the importance of the Vilnius NATO Summit and shared their national stances and expectations. According to A. Anušauskas, all the Nordic Group members hoped the Vilnius Summit to result in decisions that enhance regional security by means of improved Allied deterrence and defence posture.
Northern Group meetings are attended by heads of defence of Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, United Kingdom, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, Finland and Sweden. Such meetings are held to address mutual interests. The Northern Group complements the set of bilateral and multilateral defence formats Lithuania takes part in.
