Acquisitions and infrastructure development
The third batch of the JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) with 50 new vehicles for the Lithuanian Armed Forces was delivered to Lithuania last week.
The latest shipment is delivered on the basis of the agreement signed in 2019 between the Ministry of National Defence and the Government of the United States on acquisition of 200 JLTVs.
With the new additional, the Lithuanian Armed Forces will possess the total of 150 vehicles.
The procurement contract will be implemented in full by the end of the year with all 200 JLTVs delivered to Lithuania. Next year, implementation of the second contract signed in 2022 covering acquisition of 300 additional vehicles from Oshkosh Defense will begin. When that is finished, the Lithuanian Armed Forces will operate the total of 500 JLTVs.
The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle is the most cutting-edge light tactical armored vehicles in the world. The technically advanced vehicles ensure high crew safety and better efficiency in reconnaissance, artillery and air support operations. The purchase not only increases capability of the Lithuanian Armed Forces but also builds on the Lithuanian-US military interoperability.
