Saudi Press Agency
Jeddah, May 19, 2023, SPA -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on Arab leaders to support the implementation of the recent General Assembly resolution and submit their countries' written arguments before the International Court of Justice for the issuance of its advisory opinion on the legality, form, and competence of the regime established by Israel on the territory of Palestine.
President Abbas also said that the Israeli occupation refuses to stop the continuous attacks on Palestine's territories and its sanctities, calling on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people and to provide it with international protection.
Addressing the Council of the Arab League at the summit level, in its 32nd regular session, hosted by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, the president said that Israel disregards the signed agreements and UN resolutions and adheres to an alternative Zionist colonial project based on continued occupation, ethnic cleansing, and apartheid, expressing confidence that the Arab Summit will succeed in addressing the regional and global challenges facing our nations.
He affirmed the readiness of the State of Palestine to work with the Arab Summit, under the leadership of Saudi Arabia, for the success of Arab, regional, and international efforts, within the framework of partnership and cooperation and finding solutions to the region's crises, in order to achieve security, peace, and prosperity for our peoples.
He also stressed his confidence that the Palestinian Cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people would be at the forefront of the Arab Summit's concerns in order to reach a just and comprehensive solution that would end the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders, the return of refugees and the liberation of prisoners, reiterating that such a solution must be based on the international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, which we adhere to as a definite way to achieve peace in the region.
