Press release on the evacuation of Russian nationals from Sudan

On the morning of May 2, special flights of Russia's Aerospace Forces arrived at Moscow's Chkalovsky airport, delivering over 200 Russian nationals, as well as nationals of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Bangladesh, Sudan, and Ukraine, from the zone of hostilities in Khartoum.
Efforts to notify people of the departure procedure and to carry out the operation itself were undertaken in strict secrecy, given the extremely high security risks.
Thanks to the thorough planning and close coordination with our Sudanese partners, the evacuation motorcade, under the protection of Russian special forces elements, left the Russian Embassy in Khartoum and reached the Al-Shahid Muhtar air base in Omdurman 35 kilometres from the Sudanese capital on May 1.
The coordinated and efficient effort by the involved Russian agencies and organisations during the hot phase of the armed conflict in Sudan helped to avoid the problems that had beset almost all Western evacuation missions.
The Russian Embassy in Khartoum will continue its work.
