The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis is visiting Moldova with other Foreign Ministers of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8). After meeting with Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu, the head of Lithuania's diplomacy said he believed in the country's European future and strongly supported Moldova's European integration aspirations.
"We are here, the whole group of Nordic and Baltic foreign ministers, to show solidarity and support for the Moldovan Government's path of deep reforms and integration into the European Union. We are here to show that Moldova belongs to Europe, that Moldova will not be left alone to fight the destructive activities of Russia," Landsbergis said.
According to Lithuania's Foreign Minister, Moldova's reforms are also crucial for the country's society, strengthening its resilience to external threats.
"We are closely monitoring the situation in Moldova. We admire the resilience and determination of the people and the state of Moldova to follow the path of European integration. The candidate status has opened up a new stage of development and a historic opportunity for the country," said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy in Chișinău.
Ministers issued a joint declaration following their meeting with Popescu.
On Thursday, the NB8 foreign ministers will also meet with Moldova's President Maja Sandu, the Speaker of the Parliament Igor Grosu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and other officials and representatives of non-governmental organisations.
In 2023, the NB8 cooperation is coordinated by Latvia.
