Minister of Defence Jana Černochová received today her Moldavian counterpart Anatolie Nosatîi. Their discussions focused on the assessment of the security situation in the context of the war in Ukraine and on bilateral defence and defence industrial cooperation.

Although Moldova has its neutrality embedded in its constitution, Moldavian public opinion is changing as a result of the conflict in Ukraine and the society is starting to lean towards a pro-European orientation of the country.

The war in Ukraine was therefore the main topic of discussion of both ministers. Minister Jana Černochová expressed political support regarding Moldavian accession to the European Union and she also appreciated Moldavian resolution to strengthen its cooperation with the NATO.

"It is obvious that you are facing enormous pressure from Russia which is trying to destabilize you country and reverse the pro-Western orientation of Moldova," Minister of Defence told her counterpart and appreciated the determination with which Moldova resists the pressure.

Last June, the European Commission formally recommended to award Moldova the EU candidate status. The country is also striving to expand its cooperation with the NATO. Minister Černochová appreciated this effort which clearly demonstrates the course of Moldavian geopolitical orientation. "We are also prepared to give our maximal support to the accession of Moldova to the European Union," the Minister underlined.

The Ministers agreed that both countries should aim to deepen their military cooperation, including via supporting the modernization of Moldavian Armed Forces by supplying them with Czech defence industry products.
