Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď visited Michalovce-based members of 21 Self-propelled Artillery Battalion and 22 Mechanised Battalion and their barracks where he was keen to witness first-hand the latest improvements in Service conditions.
Touring the military units in Michalovce, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "One of my priorities has always been visiting military units in person across the whole of Slovakia. In doing so, I am pleased to see refurbishment projects being either completed or undertaken step by step. These projects are designed to provide military personnel with decent conditions for their service to the country. At the same time, this allows me to fulfil my duty of care towards the Defence estate that has been in poor state of condition for years. Of course, it is not possible to do everything at once. Indeed, there are often extensive works to be completed at military installations. Nevertheless, we are doing our utmost and will continue to do everything we can this year too."
Whilst last year over €425,000 was invested in the maintenance of neglected defence infrastructure in Michalovce, this year the MOD has set aside €1,719,565 for this purpose. Its determination to improve conditions to better support service personnel is best evidenced by the four-fold rise in maintenance investment.
The Defence Minister's official programme in Michalovce continued at the Cultural Centre, where he joined Foreign and European Affairs Minister Rastislav Káčer for a public discussion on: "A year of Russia's war against Ukraine - What does it mean for Slovakia?"
