President Gitanas Nausėda welcomed the third NATO-EU Declaration signed on Tuesday by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
"In today's geopolitical context, the Joint NATO-EU Declaration is a highly important manifesto consolidating strategic partnership. It sends a strong message of transatlantic unity: close cooperation, coordination of actions and mobilization of resources between NATO and the EU is essential for strengthening our indivisible security and defense. NATO must remain the cornerstone of collective defense to ensure the security of the European Union," the President said.
The Declaration not only reinforces the strategic partnership between NATO and the EU, but also takes cooperation between the two organizations to the next level.
The Declaration unequivocally condemns Russia's military aggression in Ukraine and calls on Russia to immediately stop the war. It confirms that Russia's aggression poses the gravest threat to Euro-Atlantic security and highlights new areas for EU-NATO cooperation.
