On Monday 24 October, Minister for Defence Pål Jonson visited Finland's Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen in Helsinki. It was Mr Jonson's first visit abroad as Minister for Defence.

Mr Kaikkonen hosted the visit. Sweden's and Finland's NATO membership applications were the focus of the ministers' discussions. The ministers confirmed the special position of Sweden and Finland in both Swedish and Finnish defence and security policy.

"Sweden's and Finland's NATO membership applications are the Government's most important foreign and security policy priority at the moment, as is Sweden, together with Finland, quickly becoming full members," says Mr Jonson.

The two ministers also discussed other issues such as Sweden's and Finland's bilateral cooperation, both countries' trilateral cooperation with Norway and the United States respectively, as well as continued military assistance to Ukraine.
