MFA response to second COI report

Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs

27.10.2022

The anti-Israel stance of UN Human Rights Council, its investigative committee, and its three heads is well known; the report can be neither objective nor balanced.

The United Nations Commission of Inquiry report that will be published shortly in New York is biased and discriminatory, which disproportionately focuses on Israel while ignoring the roots of the conflict and the responsibility of the Palestinians. This is yet another layer in the double standard of the coordinated campaign to vilify, demonize and delegitimize Israel.

At no point in the document is there any mention of Israel's security needs on the one hand, and Palestinian terrorist activities and incitement on the other. The report ignores the continuous firing of thousands of rockets at the Israeli civilian population by the Hamas terror organization, and while Israel is mentioned in the report hundreds of times, the Hamas terror organization is not mentioned even once.

The anti-Israel stance of UN Human Rights Council, its investigative committee, and its three heads is well known, and therefore the report can be neither objective nor balanced.

The report is a direct continuation of the Human Rights Council's constant discrimination against Israel. Israel is the only country that has a permanent, dedicated item focusing exclusively on it (item 7). It is important to remember that a report that demonizes Israel provides fuel for antisemitism. It encourages and promotes the delegitimization of hatred of Israel, which spills over into the streets, and has increased in the past year since the establishment of the committee.

The family of 5-year-old Ido Avigal, who was killed in Sderot by a shrapnel wound to the head during Operation Guardian of the Walls, is standing now in the square in front of the UN building. They have come to tell the true story and reflect the facts of the events of May 2021 as they actually transpired.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue its fight against the many levels of false narrative that the committee is trying to promote in the report in the arenas of international organizations. Together with our international allies, we will lead the struggle both directly and in joint moves with civil society organizations that are not afraid to present the truth as it is.
