The President: Having rid itself of the occupational army, Lithuania has become an example for other countries

President Gitanas Nausėda, attending the commemoration of Freedom Day in the capital's Lukiškių Square on Wednesday, stressed that 29 years ago, after long and difficult negotiations with Russia, Lithuania became a role model for other countries, which were also striving to get rid of the remaining occupational forces.

"What we have never been lacking is courage, determination, and the belief that the rule of others is temporary. Driven by an undying hope, we have gone through trials and tribulations to make ourselves even stronger. We have devoted the years of independence not only to our personal well-being, but also to the well-being of the state, to the creation of a strong and reliable Home of the Nation," the President pointed out.

According to Gitanas Nausėda, Russia's war against Ukraine has once again reminded us that we live in a dangerous neighborhood and that we must stand together with other free countries to defend our achievements.

"It is for a good reason that our ancestors, when they rose up in fight for freedom, justice and human dignity, would wish freedom not only for themselves, but also for others. We must continue this glorious tradition," President Gitanas Nausėda urged.

The President stressed that Lithuania today was one of the most committed supporters of the embattled Ukraine. Together with its closest partners, Lithuanian is doing its utmost to ensure that the revival of the evil empire planned by Moscow would fail not only in Kyiv, but also in Kherson, Donbass, and Crimea.

"I am confident that sooner or later Ukraine will win, and so will we all. Let us continue to walk the path of Freedom, strong and steadfast. Let us set an example that can inspire our neighboring countries for centuries to come," President Gitanas Nausėda spoke.

On 31 August, Freedom Day is celebrated in Lithuania, marking the final withdrawal of the Russian occupational troops on the last day of the summer of 1993.
