PM Yair Lapid Visits IDF Southern Command HQ and the Area Adjacent to the Gaza Strip

Prime Minister Yair Lapid, today visited IDF Southern Command headquarters and the area adjacent to the Gaza Strip.

Prime Minister Lapid, together with Defense Minister Benny Gantz, first visited IDF Southern Command headquarters where they held an assessment of the situation with IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi, Prime Minister's Military Secretary Maj.-Gen. Avi Gil, Head of Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Eliezer Toledano, Prime Minister's Office Director General Naama Schultz and other senior officials.

Afterwards, Prime Minister Lapid and Defense Minister Gantz visited Southern Command's command and control center and closely monitored the actions being carried out in the sector. The Prime Minister and Defense Minister spoke with command center soldiers and with its commander.

Prime Minister Lapid continued to Sderot where - together with Economy and Industry Ministry Orna Barbivay - he met with southern local authority heads at the municipality building.

Prime Minister Lapid updated the local authority heads on the Forum of Ministry Directors General, which convened yesterday in order to integrate and optimize the civilian response to Operation Breaking Dawn. The authority heads noted that there has been regular contact and close cooperation with the government in recent days. They also said that this was the first time that government ministries had taken the initiative and contacted them directly.

Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi, Sdot Negev Regional Council Chairman Tamir Idan, Shaar Hanegev Regional Council Chairman Ofir Leibstein, Eshkol Regional Council Chairman Gadi Yarkoni, Ashkelon Mayor Tomer Glam and Hof Ashkelon Regional Council Chairman Itamar Revivo, as well as Prime Minister's Office Director General Naama Schultz and Prime Minister's Military Secretary Maj.-Gen. Avi Gil, attended the meeting.
