Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh stressed that the history has shown that there is no military solution to Afghanistan crisis and all groups and parties must resolve the issues through negotiation and dialogue.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Khatibzadeh said, "We are ready to facilitate the intra-Afghan peace talks as before and we welcome the peaceful transfer of power and the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan".
He also announced that Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi will visit Iran on Thursday to meet with Iranian officials and discuss bilateral issues and the recent developments in Afghanistan.
Answering a question that whether the visit of Japanese Foreign Minister to Iran was aimed at mediating between Iran and some countries, including the United States, Khatibzadeh said, "The visit was made in response to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif's recent visit to Japan and was planned a long time ago".
"The visit has nothing to do with mediation and it is undertaken in the framework of bilateral relations between Iran and Japan," the spokesman added.
Regarding Vienna talks, the spokesman said Iran's stance has not changed; meanwhile, developments in the government may bring some changes.
"It was the United States and Europe who failed to fulfill their commitments to the JCPOA, and Iran's retaliatory steps are absolutely in line with the international framework," Khatibzadeh stressed.
"Unfortunately, in recent months the Biden administration has continued Trump's failed legacy," he added.
Regarding a statement issued by three European countries to express concerns over Iran's nuclear program, Khatibzadeh said that what Iran did was under its commitments to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and Safeguards Agreement.
All Iran has done has been under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and all its activities have followed peaceful purposes, he noted, while naming such a statement as political and illegal.
"The three countries should respond to the question that why they did not issue any statement when US withdrew unilaterally from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), put maximum pressures on Iran, and mount economic war against Iranian people to target their health," he underlined.
