Iran, China confer on latest developments in Afghanistan

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held a meeting with Chinese Special Envoy for Afghanistan Affairs Yue Xiaoyong in Tehran on Monday.

Congratulating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Iran and China, Zarif thanked Beijing government for supplying COVID-19 vaccines to the Islamic Republic.

Explaining Tehran's view on the latest developments in Afghanistan, Zarif stressed Iran's support for the formation of Coordination Council by Afghan leaders aiming at preventing any escalation of violence and war in the current situation of Afghanistan.

The Iranian foreign minister considered the issue of displaced people in the latest developments in Afghanistan and their influx to the neighboring countries as one of the most important issues arising from the developments in Afghanistan which needs serious attention, especially given the difficult conditions of coronavirus pandemic.

Yue Xiaoyong, for his part, congratulated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Iran and China, describing the strategic cooperation between the two countries in various fields as important.

He also explained China's view over the latest developments in Afghanistan, stressing on the need for cooperation among regional countries, especially neighbors of Afghanistan.
