Taiwan congratulates Biden on winning election

Taipei, Nov. 8 (CNA) Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) tweeted her congratulations to Joe Biden on Sunday morning, after many American media outlets projected the Democrat has won the presidency of the United States.

"Now it is my turn to extend congratulations to @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris on being elected President & VP-elect. The values on which we have built our relationship could not be stronger. I look fwd to working together to further our friendship, & contributions to int'l society," Tsai said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also extended its congratulations to Biden on his projected triumph by tweeting that "The government & people of #Taiwan congratulate @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris on victory in #Election2020."

"We look forward to working closely with the #US in deepening bilateral friendship & exchanges based on our shared values of freedom, democracy & respect for human rights," the ministry tweeted.

Multiple American media outlets, including CNN, projected at around midnight Saturday (Taipei time) that Biden has won to become the U.S.' 46th president, because his lead in Pennsylvania could no longer be overridden by Donald Trump.

In a written statement Saturday (U.S. time), Biden said he was "honored and humbled" by the trust the American people have placed in him," according to CNN. Biden is expected to address the American people later in the day.
