Pacific Sentry 19-3 tested the 94th AAMDC Air Defense Capabilities
By Sgt. Malcolm Cohens-Ashley June 26, 2019
Soldiers from the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command were evaluated on their Air Defense capabilities during Pacific Sentry 19-3, a bilateral United States and Australian Joint exercise from June 13-20, 2019, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.
PS 19-3 is conducted in the USINDOPACOM (IPCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR). It is intended to provide training for crisis action planning and execution for potential contingency operations within the AOR.
During PS 19-3, the 94th AAMDC ensured ballistic air and missile defense for those in theater. The 94th AAMDC also was able to create a defensive posture that greatly reduced possible enemy attacks, including intercepting cruise missiles and other threats.
Due to the magnitude of PS 19-3, there were many roles to be filled on different echelons. From providing early warnings for possible incoming missile strikes, to simply overseeing daily operations to providing enemy intelligence.
Maj. Michael Goglia, the G3 current operations chief for the 94th AAMDC, assumed the role of G3 Chief of operations during the exercise.
"I Ensured synchronization of all staff focused on current operations as well as ensuring a robust coordination and information channel with liaison officers and planners from all joint and coalition partners," said Goglia.
Some of the other roles that were filled during PS 19-3, were roles such those who would provide intelligence about the whereabouts and activities of the enemy.
Sgt. Carly Singleton, a geospatial engineer assigned to the 94th AAMDC served as the G2 Battle Non-Commissioned Officer during the exercise.
"My role during the exercise was to confirm the existence of advisory attacks/activity to assess where they originated and where they were going," said Singleton. "If we figure out where the bad guys are we can hit them before they hit us; if we figure out what their next step is, we can be one step ahead and save lives and equipment."
In addition, some were tasked specifically with missile defense during the exercise. Their role was just as vital.
Pfc. Cole Becker, an air defense battle management system operator assigned to the 94th AAMDC aided the 94th AAMDC in theater missile defense during PS-19-3.
"I operated the tactical data analysis connectivity system (TDACS) to provide SA and early warning for Tactical Ballistic Missiles (TBM) and cruise missile launches," Becker stated. "The Importance of my role was to provide early warning to the floor in order to defend against TBM and cruise missile launches."
While there were many roles to be filled, there were other roles that were filled with those from outside of the 94th AAMDC. During PS 19-3, the 94th AAMDC was evaluated by Soldiers from the 263rd AAMDC, South Carolina National Guard.
The 94th AAMDC was evaluated on the planning and execution of theater security, air and missile defense operations and actions associated with force projection at echelon above corps. The evaluation occurred during the latter half of the exercise.
In conjunction, the 94th AAMDC will find out in the coming weeks how successful they were during PS 19-3 in regards to air and missile defense operations and theater security.
