Afghan 1st vice president escapes Taliban ambush

Kabul, March 30, IRNA -- Delegation of Afghanistan First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum escaped Taliban ambush on the way from Balkh to Jowzjan Province.

Speaking to Afghan media, Balkh police spokesman Adel Shah said the ambush has been placed in Charbolak District.

Despite the fact that Dostum has escaped the incident, conflict is underway between Taliban and governmental forces, he added.

Shah did not refer to casualties of the incident, but according to some sources one the security forces was killed and two others were injured.

Meanwhile, Balkh governorate spokesman Monir Ahmad Farhad told media that Rashid Dostum has arrived safely in Jowzjan Province.

Rashid Dostum who had earlier travelled to Turkey, arrived in Balkh through Uzbekistan and after a short stay in Mazar-i-Sharif headed for Jowzjan Province.

While in Mazar-i-Sharif, Dostum said if he had been permitted he would cleanse northern Afghanistan of terrorists in 6 months.

Earlier, Commander of Kandahar police Tadin Khan announced that a member of Afghanistan House of the People Obeidollah Barkazi was assassinated by unknown assailants.
