Red Cross looking for political solution to end Yemen's conflict
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 19, IRNA -- Vice-president of the International Committee of Red Cross Gilles Carbonnier said it seeks to find a political solution to end the conflict in Yemen and needs the help of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
'Between us and officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran, there is a shared view on the issues of the Red Cross and the recognition of the sufferings of the people,' Carbonnier said in a meeting with Special Aide to the Iranian Parliament's Speaker for International Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian on Monday.
He noted, "Iran is in a region where neighboring countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, and some further away in Yemen, witness war and conflict, and conditions are worsening day to day.'
Carbonnier stated that in the coming days there would be a conference on the political and humanitarian implications of the wars in Syria and Yemen, and the Red Cross missions in these countries will inform the latest situation in these areas and make new decisions regarding the conflict zones.
Amirabdoullahian also said the imposition of warmongering policies poses a lot of challenges in the region.
"The humanitarian situation in Yemen is in a critical state and requires special attention to humanitarian issues,' he said, adding, 'The policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the case of Yemen is not supporting a certain group and our view is preserving the interests of all Yemenis.'
