NATO Secretary General: Croatia is a committed Ally

NATO - North Atlantic Treaty Organisation

08 Oct. 2018

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is visiting Croatia on Monday (8 October 2018). Speaking alongside Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Mr. Stoltenberg praised Croatia's many contributions to the Alliance. This includes Croatian troops serving in NATO battlegroups in Lithuania and Poland, and in NATO missions in Kosovo and Afghanistan.

The Secretary General also thanked Croatia for joining NATO's Operation Sea Guardian for the first time, working with other Allies to keep the Mediterranean secure. "We are grateful for Croatia's important role in NATO. You contribute to our shared security, to our collective defence," said Mr. Stoltenberg.

The Secretary General and the Prime Minister discussed developments in the region, and also the importance of fairer-burden sharing in the Alliance. Mr Stoltenberg encouraged Croatia to continue to invest more in its defence.

During his visit the Secretary General will also have talks with President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
