SANTORINI CALDERA, Greece (NNS) -- The guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) arrived in Santorini, Greece, for a scheduled port visit to strengthen U.S. and Hellenic relations as the two nations work in partnership to fortify security and stability in the region.

"This is a great chance for Normandy to visit a NATO partner and take in some of the rich culture Greece has to offer," said Capt. Chris Stone, Normandy's commanding officer. "After 43 days at sea, the crew is looking forward to enjoying some of the picturesque sights of Santorini and relaxing a bit before continuing on with our mission."

In addition to touring some of the local attractions, Normandy Sailors will also be hosting the U.S. Ambassador to Greece during a reception that will be held aboard Normandy.

Normandy is currently deployed as part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group. With USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) as the flagship, deployed strike group units include staffs, ships and aircraft of Carrier Strike Group Eight (CSG 8), Destroyer Squadron Two Eight (DESRON 28) and Carrier Air Wing One (CVW-1); as well as Sachsen-class German Frigate FGS Hessen (F221).
