USS Laboon Enters U.S. 6th Fleet

ATLANTIC OCEAN (NNS) -- The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Laboon (DDG 58) entered the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations March 1, to conduct a routine deployment in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe, and increased theater security cooperation and forward naval presence in the U.S. 6th fleet area of operations.

While in theater, sailors aboard Laboon will participate in training evolutions to strengthen areas in watchstanding, damage control, and warfighting. Laboon will be participating in exercises with NATO allies and European and African partner nations.

Quick Facts:

* Laboon is on a back-to-back deployment, spending time operating in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleets. During the ship's 2017 deployment, the ship conducted a variety of operations with multinational allies including two months of counter smuggling operations, during which they seized more than $50 million dollars in illicit narcotics.

* U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
