Saad Hariri arrives in Paris

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 18, IRNA -- Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri arrived at Paris Airport on Saturday, according to the Lebanese news networks.

According to Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC), the Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri who had left Riyadh for Paris, arrived there on Saturday and left the airport for his house in Paris.

Hariri announced his resignation from premiership on Nov 4 from Riyadh in an unexpected move, but the Lebanese President Michel Aoun didn't accept his resignation and urged him to return to Lebanon to detail on it.

Hariri-affiliated Almustaqbal TV channel said some hours ago that he had left Riyadh with his wife for Paris Le Bourget Airport.

The TV channel did not give any information whether his children went to Paris or not; but the Lebanese Al-Akhbar newspaper wrote two of his children stayed in Saudi Arabia, and his eldest son Hesam went to Paris from London to welcome him.

It is unclear how long he is going to stay in Paris, but it is said that he may visit some other Arab capitals before going back to Beirut.

Most Lebanese, including the president, believe that Hariri and his family were in custody in Saudi Arabia and he has been coerced to resign. Some high-rank authorities, like German ones, and international media believe the same thing.

With French President Emanuel Macron and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian's mediation and international pressure, the Saudis let Hariri and his wife leave for Paris.

Macron said he will welcome Hariri with prime minister honors; he won't be a political refugee.

Lebanese president welcomed the fact that Hariri was allowed to leave Riyadh for Paris, expressing hope Hariri will return to Beirut for his resignation to be decided on.
