IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Sep 8, IRNA -- Pakistan and China have ruled out any military solution to the Afghan issue, reiterating that solution of the problem has to be fundamentally political.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, while addressing a press conference in Beijing, have also rejected the new US strategy of sending more troops to Afghanistan.
Referring to the US policy, Khawaja Asif said peace and stability in Afghanistan remains critical for peace and security of the region. He said it is our firm view that focus should be on politically-negotiated settlement of the Afghan conflict.
He said China is playing a constructive role in this regard and together Pakistan and China can contribute to a political solution of Afghan problem.
Pakistani foreign minister has arrived in China to discuss new US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia. The minister is also planning to visit Iran in a few days to discuss the US new strategy in Afghanistan with top Iranian officials.
