Pentagon Chief Spokesperson Dana W. White provided the following readout:
Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis met with his counterpart from the United Kingdom, Secretary of State for Defence Michael Fallon, today at the Pentagon. The leaders discussed bilateral defense issues, NATO, the D-ISIS campaign, Afghanistan, and North Korea.
Secretary Mattis lauded the value of the U.S.-U.K. close security partnership. He thanked Secretary Fallon for his country's sustained leadership in NATO as a framework nation for enhanced forward presence and close collaborator on modernization efforts to strengthen the alliance. Secretary Mattis expressed his appreciation to Secretary Fallon for their recent decision to add more troops in Afghanistan and for sharing views to inform the United States' national defense strategy.
The two leaders pledged to continue their dialogue on shared security interests and the U.S.-U.K. bilateral defense agenda.
