Oscar Austin Departs Souda Bay

SOUDA BAY, Greece (NNS) -- The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79), along with embarked helo squadron Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 46, departed Souda Bay, Greece, after a scheduled port visit May 3, 2017.

Quick Facts:
-Oscar Austin is on a routine deployment supporting U.S. national security interests in Europe, and increasing theatre security cooperation and forward naval presence in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
-While in theater, sailors onboard Oscar Austin will have the opportunity to work together with allied partners for regional stability and to strengthen our partner nation alliances.
-U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
