A Russian Su-35 fighter jet was reportedly tracked by Spanish and Portuguese military planes during its flight over the Atlantic Ocean.

MADRID (Sputnik) – Two Spanish fighter jets F-18 and one Portuguese fighter jet F-16 took off from their bases in order to track the Russian jet from southeast of the United Kingdom to Cape St.Vincent on southwest of Portugal on November 17, the Spanish daily ABC reported, citing its own sources.

The newspaper noted that the Su-35 did not violate the borders of Spain or Portugal, flying over international waters only. The Russian jet turned back after reaching Cape St. Vincent.

The Russian Ministry of Defense had repeatedly said that all flights of the Russian Aerospace Forces are performed in a strict accordance with international regulations on use of aerospace over neutral waters. The ministry stated that Russian military planes never violate aerospace borders of other countries.
