IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Oct 18, IRNA -- The United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, announced Monday a plan for the resumption of a comprehensive cessation of hostilities in the war-torn (Persian) Gulf nation.
According to the United Nations website, the Special Envoy has received assurances from all Yemeni parties of their recommitment to the Terms and Conditions of the Cessation of Hostilities of April 10, 2016, which will re-enter into force at 23:59 Yemen time on 19 October 2016, for an initial period of 72 hours, subject to renewal.
Cheikh Ahmed welcomed the restoration of the cessation of hostilities, 'which will spare the Yemeni people further bloodshed and will allow for the expanded delivery of humanitarian assistance,' and he called on all Yemeni parties, the region and the international community to encourage full respect for the cessation of hostilities and to ensure that it leads to a permanent and lasting end to the conflict.
Also, Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdel-Malek al-Mekhlafi officially said on Monday that the country's fugitive president, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, has agreed to the 72-hour ceasefire and its extension.
In addition, the Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, too, has said that Riyadh will be prepared to accept ceasefire in Yemen if Ansarullah agrees to.
Saudi Arabia with the help of nine other Arab countries except Oman has been mounting massive attacks on Yemen since March 26, 2015, to give power back to the resigned Yemeni president and prevent the Yemeni revolutionary forces from taking power.
