F/A-18C Crashed, Pilot Ejected Safely

NAVAL AIR STATION FALLON, Nev. (NNS) -- An F/A-18C Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Wing Pacific, Detachment Fallon, crashed into an open field near Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada, at approximately 10:50 a.m. PDT. The pilot ejected safely from the aircraft, was recovered by emergency response personnel, and has been transported to medical facilities on the air station for evaluation.
The F/A-18C Hornet was on temporary assignment to Strike Fighter Wing Pacific Detachment Fallon, from Marine Strike Fighter Squadron (VMFA) 232.
Initial reports indicate no structures or personnel on the ground were damaged or injured in the mishap. The cause of the mishap is under investigation.
