PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Hawaii awarded a $14.9 million firm-fixed-price task order under a multiple award construction contract Jan. 22 to Bethel-Webcor JV-1, a small business in Anchorage, Alaska.
The project will renovate two Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQs), Buildings 1604 and 1632 originally constructed in 1972, at Marine Corps Base (MCB) Hawaii, Kaneohe, Oahu.
'The Marines and Sailors who reside in the barracks have been waiting a long time for this renovation, and they deeply appreciate the efforts of everyone involved to make it happen,' said Director of the Unaccompanied Personnel Housing Division MCB Hawaii Ray Rippel.
Work is to include miscellaneous interior and external repairs as well as the replacement of deteriorated doors and windows, floor coverings and ceilings, plumbing fixtures such as showers, vanities, and toilets, downspouts, exhaust ventilation and air conditioning systems, hot water heating and fire alarm systems, electrical to include light fixtures, main electrical distribution panel, and painting.
'These renovations will enormously improve the quality of life for unmarried Marines and Sailors on their first or second enlistments,' said Ripple. 'Not only that, it will give us a better chance to retain the best among them as residents see, first hand, the Marine Corps' commitment to making their off-duty hours as comfortable and safe as practicable.'
Work is expected to be completed by September 2017.
