Ten military trainers from the UK's Second Battalion of The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (2 PWRR) will stay in Afghanistan's Camp Shorabak for the next couple of months, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) news desk told Sputnik on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Tuesday, the United Kingdom deployed a group of military personnel to the southern Afghan province of Helmand, to Camp Shorabak, to train local security forces.

"They [trainers] are with the 2 PWRR, which is The Princess of Wales War Regiment, 10 of them. … As for how long, it's for a couple of months," the news desk said.

The 2 PWRR, also known as 'The Tigers,' is a light infantry regiment specializing in dismounted close combat. According to MoD, the 2 PWRR is on 'Very High Readiness (VHR) for potential deployments in the Middle East and North Africa.'

The United Kingdom officially ended its military operations in Afghanistan in 2014 and withdrew its troops deployed in the country. London, however, maintained a limited number of troops to assist the Afghan security services, providing them with training. The total number of the UK personnel in Afghanistan is estimated at around 450.
