Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook provided the following readout:
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter met with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain today at the king's residence. The secretary reviewed his week-long visit to the region with the king and discussed the Counter-ISIL strategy for Iraq and Syria. The secretary also thanked the kingdom for its tremendous support to the Counter-ISIL coalition and both acknowledged the importance of the Gulf states increasing their participation in counterterrorism operations throughout the region.
The secretary reaffirmed U.S. commitment to Bahrain's security and emphasized the importance of continuing to work together to counter Iranian malign activities.
Secretary Carter thanked the king for the decades of friendship between Bahrain and the U.S. They concluded the meeting by agreeing to stay in close contact with regard to expanding and bolstering the Counter-ISIL coalition.
