Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook provided the following readout:
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter met today with Dutch Minister of Defense Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert at the Pentagon. They last met in October at the NATO defense ministerial in Brussels, Belgium. Secretary Carter and Minister Hennis-Plasschaert discussed the U.S.-Dutch defense relationship, including the Dutch role in the counter-ISIL Coalition and the European security environment after the Paris attacks.
Secretary Carter thanked Minister Hennis-Plasschaert for the Netherlands' progress toward meeting the NATO target of 2 percent GDP spending on defense, and for the Dutch contribution to joint NATO deterrence efforts. They also discussed the Netherlands' participation in the F-35 program in advance of Minister Hennis-Plasschaert's visit to the Dutch detachment at Edwards Air Force Base, where Dutch planes and pilots are participating in F-35 testing.
Secretary Carter and Minister Hennis-Plasschaert agreed to continue their in-depth dialogue on defense issues.
