SEPANGGAR, Malaysia (NNS) -- Sailors from the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) welcomed aboard members of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) for a tour showcasing ship capabilities while in Sepanggar, Malaysia, during a port visit Nov. 13.
The tour provided RMN Sailors and submariners with a behind-the-scenes look at how the Emory S. Land provides support to submarines and surface ships in the fleet.
'It was very informative,' said Acting Sub-Lieutenant Muraly, a Royal Malaysian Navy officer who attended the tour. 'I have seen a lot of similarities between our ship and this one.'
The RMN sailors toured the repair workshops, the weapons department and command spaces. They also visited support services such as the crews' galley, chapel, barber shop, post office and ship store.
At each stop, a Sailor stood by to give a presentation and answer any questions, one of which was the dive locker.
'It gives people, who don't know about Navy diving, a first-hand account and a better grasp of our capabilities,' said Navy Diver 1st Class Will Crampton, the dive locker tour guide. 'They can get up close and personal with our equipment that they might have only heard about.'
Land's visit to Sepanggar continues the U.S. Navy's ongoing commitment to theater security, cooperation and friendship with local partner navies.
Emory S. Land is a forward deployed expeditionary submarine tender on an extended deployment conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operations.
