Readout of Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work's Meeting with Republic of Korea (ROK) Saenuri Party Chairman Kim Moo-Sung


Deputy Secretary of Defense Spokesperson Lt. Cmdr. Courtney Hillson provided the following readout:

Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work met with Republic of Korea (ROK) Saenuri Party Chairman Kim Moo-Sung at the Pentagon today. This was the first meeting between the two officials.

Work reiterated the importance of the U.S.-ROK alliance, referring to this friendship as a linchpin of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. The deputy secretary and Chairman Kim discussed wide-ranging areas of mutual interest, to include trilateral security cooperation, peacekeeping‎ contributions and North Korean provocations. Work reaffirmed U.S. commitment to coordinating with the ROK to effectively deter North Korean aggression.

The two leaders look forward to continuing to work together to further strengthen the U.S.-ROK alliance.
