The United Nations says at least 142 people in Yemen, including 36 children and 27 women, have been killed in the ongoing airstrikes carried out by Saudi Arabia in a 10-day time period.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights' spokesperson Rupert Colville made the announcement on Wednesday, adding that some 224 others were injured between July 3 and 13.

'On one particularly deadly day, 6 July, two markets in different provinces were hit by airstrikes. In a market in Afiosh area in Lahij Governorate, 40 civilians including 12 children and seven women were killed while 17 other civilians were injured,' Colville said.

He added that more than 30 civilians, including eight women and nine children, lost their lives in the second market in Amran Province.

On July 14, Saudi Arabia carried out more than 200 airstrikes on the provinces of Hajjah, Sa'ada, and Aden. Nearly 10 people were killed in Hajjah's Harad District.

At least 20 people were killed and dozens wounded in Saudi airstrikes on Sa'ada on July 15.

According to Colville, more than 3,800 people have been killed in Yemen since March 26, when Riyadh launched its airstrikes - without a UN mandate.

More than one million people have been internally displaced, the UN says.

The Saudi military aggression against Yemen was meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to the country's fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says the humanitarian situation in Yemen is alarming. The organization has also warned of a 'critical' health situation in the Aden.
