The Latvian National Armed Forces claim to have detected two Russian military ships and a submarine near Latvia's border.
The vessels were spotted in Latvia's exclusive economic zone five miles away from the border, according to a statement issued by the press service of the Latvian military.
The National Armed Forces identified the vessels as a Project 775 class landing ship (NATO reporting name Ropucha), a Parchim class corvette (known in Russia as Project 1331M) and a Project 877 Paltus diesel-electric submarine, designated by NATO as the Kilo class.
Latvia's National Armed Forces also allegedly spotted an Antonov An-22, a heavy military transport aircraft, conducting a flight near the border.
Similar reports were made in earlier this year. In March, the Latvian military said that a Russian ship and two submarines came close to Latvia's naval border. In April, Russian ship and a submarine were allegedly detected near Latvia's territorial waters.
