More than 2,000 Afghan families have been displaced due to recent clashes between the Taliban militants and the security forces in the northern province of Kunduz.
Referring to the displaced, Abdul Sallam Hashimi, the head of the refugees and repatriations department in Kunduz Province, said on Wednesday that "they have left their homes in the conflict areas of the province and moved to Kunduz city."
Sediq Sediqi, the spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs, also said the "foreign insurgents are involved in the war across the country, but our aim is to completely eliminate them."
The security forces recently announced that they have been successful so far at the battle, which seems to be serious this time with reports from citizens and government forces confirming that Taliban have surrounded the provincial capital.
Sayed Sarwar Hossaini, the Kunduz provincial police spokesman, said about 30 militants have been killed over the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Dawlat Waziri, a deputy spokesman for the Afghan Defense Ministry, said apart from Kunduz, 13 other military operations were under way throughout the country. Waziri added, "In the past 24 hours, at least 58 insurgents have been killed and 41 injured in other operations."
The military operations come as Taliban launched its so-called annual spring offensive dubbed "Azm" (Resolution) on April 24 against Afghan forces as well as foreign embassies.
Afghanistan faces a security challenge years after the United States and its allies invaded the country in 2001 as part of Washington's so-called war on terror. The offensive removed Taliban from power, but many areas in the country are still witnessing violence, which threatens stability.
The recent Kunduz clashes mark the first major encounter between the Afghan forces and the militants in northern Afghanistan since the United States ended its combat mission in December 2014.
