Saudi Arabia has supplied Lebanon with 98 vehicles, a Lebanese Defense Ministry source said Wednesday.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) – Saudi Arabia has supplied Lebanese armed forces with 98 vehicles as part of military aid to the country, a Lebanese Defense Ministry source said Wednesday.

'As part of Saudi military assistance, new military equipment has been transferred to the port of Beirut. The kingdom has given 98 Land Rover Defenders to the Lebanese army,' the source told RIA Novosti.

On April 20, France supplied Lebanese authorities with the first batch of military aid.

In August 2014, Saudi Arabia allocated $3 billion to purchase weapons from France to help Lebanon, with Paris undertaking to supply weapons for three years.

According to French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, 60 French military instructors will also provide training to Lebanese soldiers.

Lebanon is currently facing attacks by armed extremist groups, including Islamic State (IS) and al-Nusra Front. In August 2014, violent clashes between Lebanese forces and militants broke out in the northeastern city of Arsal, with extremists seizing some 30 Lebanese servicemen.
