MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi will stay in one of the Arab capitals until conditions in Yemen allow him to return there, Yemen foreign minister Riyadh Yassin said on Saturday.

Earlier this day Hadi, accompanied by Saudi Arabia's king, urgently left the Arab League summit held in Egypt and flew to the Saudi capital Riyadh amid worsening situation in Yemen.

'The president [Hadi] has no plans to return to the south [Yemen] until it is possible [to do so],' – Yassin said as quoted by Bahraini news outlet Al-Wasat.

Yemen is being torn by an armed confrontation between Shiite Houthi opposition fighters and forces loyal to Hadi. In an effort to fight the Houthi militias' offensive, on Wednesday, Hadi asked the Arab League of Gulf countries for military help. The same day, a Saudi-led coalition launched a military campaign targeting the positions of Houthi rebels in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa.

The situation in Yemen has been rapidly deteriorating since August 2014 when protests of the Shiite Houthi opposition swept the country. The Houthi rebels forced Hadi and his government to resign in late January 2015 after capturing the presidential palace and government buildings. In February, Hadi escaped from his residence after several weeks of house arrest and fled to the city of Aden.
