Poland's Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak confirms media reports that Poland has asked for the long-range cruise missiles from the US.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Poland Tomasz Siemoniak has confirmed that his country has asked the US if it can buy Tomahawk cruise missiles for the three new submarines it is planning to add to its fleet, reports the Polish press.

'We are planning to bring into use a new type of submarine, and one of the capabilities we want them to have is cruise missiles,' the Polish press agency reports Siemoniak told Polish radio.

'We are asking whether individual countries would be willing to provide us with such missiles,' said the minister, confirming an earlier report from the newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna that the Defense Ministry had approached the US with their request.

The US and the UK are currently the only two countries to possess the cruise missiles, which can be launched from a ship or submarine and are able to fly into airspace more than 1,000 miles away to conduct strikes.
