NORFOLK (NNS) -- The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) departed its homeport of Norfolk to conduct various training exercises in the Atlantic Ocean, Jan 31.

'We've come home, settled in and got a chance to relax,' said Operations Specialist 2nd Class Clara GonzalezBaez, currently stationed aboard George H.W. Bush. 'Going out on underways allows us to refresh the knowledge we gained from our last deployment.'

The underway will include various shipboard training evolutions for each department. George H.W. Bush will also be receiving multiple air crews to conduct flight operations.

'We just came off of a deployment then into an extended leave period,' said Operations Specialist 1st Class Victoria N. Delamar. 'Getting back out into tactical operations, getting aircraft out, getting back into the flow of things helps carriers by keeping them ready to deploy.'

George H.W. Bush recently returned from a nine-month deployment to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility and is currently underway conducting training exercises in the Atlantic Ocean.
