US-led coalition hits areas in Syria's Aleppo

The US-led coalition allegedly fighting against ISIL militants has reportedly carried out airstrikes against areas north of the Syrian city of Aleppo for the first time.
The Britain-based so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Sunday that the US-led coalition targeted the Madajen area, where ISIL militants have been battling al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and its allies.
"At least 12 coalition strikes hit positions and weapons depots in areas that had never been targeted before," the group's director, Rami Abdel Rahman, said.
Madajen is located between ISIL-controlled Dabiq and Marea, which is held by the Takfiri militants' rivals.
The British group said the airstrikes would probably help the al-Nusra Front in its fight against rivals.
Infighting between the militants has been going on in Aleppo since early this year.
The US and its allies started their air campaign in Syria in September under the pretext of targeting ISIL militants. However, they have also hit Syrian infrastructure including oil and gas facilities and attacked the provinces where ISIL militants are not active.
The ISIL terrorists currently control some parts of Syria and Iraq. They have been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including mass executions and beheadings.
According to the United Nations, more than 200,000 people have lost their lives since the unrest broke out in Syria back in 2011.
