Boko Haram terrorist group has abducted at least 185 people from Nigeria's northeastern village of Gumsuri.
According to reports on Thursday, Boko Haram Takfiri militants launched an offensive on the village, killing at least 33 people and kidnapping 185.
The attack took place on December 14; however, the news of the incident emerged on Thursday after the survivors of the deadly offensive managed to reach the city of Maiduguri.
The local officials said the hostages were taken on trucks to the Sambisa Forest, a stronghold of the Takfiri terrorist group.
Meanwhile, military sources in Cameroon, Nigeria's eastern neighbor, have announced that 116 Nigerian militants were killed during clashes with the Cameroonian army.
Back on April 14, Boko Haram militants kidnapped 276 students from their secondary school in the northeastern town of Chibok.
The abduction case drew national and international condemnation. The Nigerian administration has been heavily criticized for what is called its failure to curb the rising violence in the African country.
Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is forbidden," says its goal is to overthrow the Nigerian government.
It has claimed responsibility for a number of deadly shooting attacks and bombings in various parts of Nigeria since the beginning of its operations in 2009, which have left more than 10,000 people dead so far.
According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, nearly 650,000 Nigerians have fled their homes due to Boko Haram attacks and are displaced inside the country, while thousands of others have taken refuge in neighboring countries.
