George H.W. Bush Arrives in Marseille, France

MARSEILLE, France (NNS) -- USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) arrived in Marseille, France for a scheduled port visit, Nov. 1.

'This port visit will be an excellent opportunity for our Sailors to relax and enjoy French culture,' said Command Master Chief David Carter, the command master chief of USS George H.W. Bush. 'I expect that all of our Sailors will really enjoy this stop, and that they will leave Marseille and France with a great impression of GHWB Sailors. France is one of our closest allies and I am extremely pleased that we are able to share this experience with them.'

Sailors will get the opportunity to relax and enjoy the vibrant culture of Marseille. They will enjoy wine tasting tours, local food, sightseeing, and various cities surrounding Marseille including Paris.

USS George H.W. Bush will host more than 200 distinguished visitors this port visit.

The U.S. Navy has long maintained a presence in Europe and Africa to promote peace, regional cooperation and security. The long term commitment to improve maritime safety and security is part of a larger U.S. government and inter agency team effort to enhance stability worldwide. Naval domain awareness is the first step toward improving maritime safety and security.

The George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.
