The Lebanese army has regained full control of Takfiri militants' stronghold in the port city of Tripoli in northern part of the country, a military source says.

The unidentified source said on Monday that the army forces did not confront any resistance while they were going into the port city, adding that over 160 militants have been captured in sporadic fights since Friday.

Reporters going along with Lebanese troops say government forces began house searches looking for Takfiri suspects.

Commandos in tanks, armored personnel carriers and Humvees arrived in Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood on Sunday, where clashes were intense over the weekend.

This comes as Lebanese troops on Wednesday killed three Takfiri terrorists and captured a local leader in the northern Dinniyeh region.

Tensions have soared in Lebanon since August, when the army fought deadly clashes with the al-Nusra Front in the northeastern town of Arsal.

The Takfiri terrorists have abducted a number of soldiers and security forces over the past few months. They have executed at least three of the hostages.

The Takfiris say Beirut must release fellow militants held in Lebanese jails in exchange for the captive soldiers.
