Afghan forces have killed at least 38 Taliban militants during operations in different parts of Afghanistan during the past 24 hours.

Afghanistan's Interior Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that Afghan National Police in a joint operation with Afghan National Army and National Directorate of Security (NDS) have managed to kill at least 38 Taliban militants in various provinces, including Helmand, Farah, Herat, Ghazni, Kandahar, Badakhshan, Parwan and Faryab.

The statement added that 13 militants were also injured. The government forces also captured 3 militants and confiscated heavy and light weapons along with ammunition and explosives.

The Taliban militants have vowed to escalate attacks on Afghan forces and US-led troops, their bases, diplomatic missions and vehicle convoys before the drawdown of the US-led foreign forces by the end of the year.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington's so-called war on terror. The military offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues across Afghanistan despite the presence of thousands of US-led troops.
