Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby provided the following readout:
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel spoke via telephone with the new UK Secretary of State for Defense Michael Fallon today. Secretary Hagel made the call to congratulate Secretary Fallon on his recent appointment and to communicate that he is looking forward to working with him in the months ahead.
The two leaders discussed the extensive historic and on-going defense cooperation between the U.S. and UK, and the work underway to deepen the U.S.-UK defense relationship to address new challenges.
The two leaders agreed to keep in close contact, especially to work toward a successful NATO Summit in September.
