U.S. Department of Defense Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs) News Release |
No. NR-291-14 | ||
IMMEDIATE RELEASE | June 03, 2014 |
Deputy Secretary of Defense Spokesperson Lt. Cmdr. Courtney Hillson provided the following readout:
On June 3, Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work met with Philip Dunne, UK Ministry of Defense, Minister for Equipment, Support, & Technology, at the Pentagon.
During their meeting, Work and Dunne discussed wide-ranging areas of U.S.-UK defense cooperation, to include shared procurement of the Joint Strike Fighter, our longstanding cooperation on nuclear issues, and implementation of the Statement of Intent on Carrier Cooperation and Maritime Power Projection that was signed by former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and UK Secretary of State for Defense Philip Hammond in September 2012.
The two leaders also discussed U.S.-UK collaboration on future force planning, which was emphasized in DOD's recent Quadrennial Defense Review. Work and Dunne exchanged insights on how to sustain robust military capabilities in fiscally constrained times and noted the strategic, operational, and tactical benefits of defense cooperation for both nations.
The deputy secretary and Minister Dunne pledged to continue oversight of these efforts through a regular dialogue.
